Updated: Oct 21

In the rapidly evolving world of education, technology continues to play a crucial role in enhancing teaching methods and engaging students. Among the plethora of digital tools available to educators, Canva stands out as a creative powerhouse that has won the hearts of teachers worldwide. With its user-friendly interface, extensive libraries, and convenient features, Canva has become an indispensable companion for educators looking to elevate their teaching materials. In this blog post, I will share the top four reasons why I love using Canva and my number 1 wish.

1. Canva offers a free account for teachers and students to use within the classroom.

One of the most compelling aspects of Canva for educators is the availability of free accounts tailored specifically for teachers and students. This means that educators can access a wealth of design resources and functionalities without any cost, making it a budget-friendly option for resource-strapped classrooms. With the free account, teachers can unlock numerous templates, images, and design tools that can be utilized to create visually captivating presentations, posters, infographics, and more.

2. There are so many ready-made templates and they save me so much time!

Time is a precious commodity for educators, and Canva understands this all too well. The platform offers a vast array of professionally designed templates for various purposes, ranging from lesson plans and class announcements to eye-catching social media posts. These ready-made templates save educators valuable time, eliminating the need to start from scratch each time they create new materials. Canva's commitment to user convenience extends to the flexibility of download options. Educators can effortlessly save their creations in multiple formats, ensuring seamless integration into their preferred teaching tools. Among the downloadable options, the ability to save designs as PowerPoint files is particularly advantageous. This feature enables educators to incorporate their Canva creations directly into their existing presentations, providing a cohesive and polished look to their teaching materials. Whether it's a slideshow for a lecture or a visually rich study guide, Canva empowers educators to harness their creativity in ways that enhance the learning experience.

4. The clipart and font libraries are huge! They make designing worksheets and lesson materials easy and fun.

easier, thanks to Canva's extensive libraries of clipart and fonts. With a vast selection of illustrations, icons, and graphics, educators can effortlessly add visual elements that resonate with their students, making learning more enjoyable and memorable. Additionally, the diverse font collection allows educators to experiment with different typography styles, creating materials that suit the tone and content of their lessons. This fusion of creativity and functionality ensures that educators can design captivating learning resources that cater to the unique needs of their students.

What do I wish?

If Canva and Adobe Illustrator teamed up, my laptop would never leave my sight! I love Illustrator's ability to work with layers. I wish Canva could do the same. I also appreciate the flexibility in resizing artboards in Illustrator to be any size. If you've used Canva to create worksheets, you may have run into frustration when your first activity fits perfectly in portrait view, but your second activity would be better-suited to a landscape page. Currently, Canva doesn't allow you to design one file with different-sized worksheets inside. Hopefully they will add that feature in a coming day.
